Valentines Day, the day of the year that I usually know as ‘force your boyfriend to take you out day’ however this year it will be Galentines Day, with my favourite (only) roomie Flo.
Having both come out of long term relationships within the last year, we are now in a weird situation where…we have to talk to boys.
For me, as I hope others would think, I had this naive thought in my head that living here would turn out like Sex and the City, different dates every week, meeting a new character and having a new story to tell. No, this is one big scary city, Mr Big does not exist and as much as I hang around furniture stores I can’t quite seem to find Aidan.
I was never on the ‘scene’ back home, but I have been told that it is completely different in New York. In the UK guys often approach girls, you usually date one person and split the bill at the end of the evening, in New York girls often approach guys, the person you are dating probably has a date lined up for straight after you and the man will pay for everything. Remember I don’t date so if the above has insulted you somehow, chill out, it is taken from stories from (experienced) friends.
This month I will be exploring dating apps, finding out what people believe is the perfect date and essentially researching into dating, because as mentioned before I know absolutely nothing. One thing I have already noted is – how sh*t scared I am of the prospect of a simple drink with another person.
Not so much Sex and the City, more Scared, Scottish and Single.
