Have you met….Twenty Something City?

It’s hard to stand out in the blogging world nowadays, however when you have fiery red hair, a colourful sense of style and more girl power than the Spice Girls you are on to a winner.

If you are wondering who I am talking about, it is Twenty Something City, otherwise known as Alice.

From nailing the sales, being a boss lady and how to bag that job you have always wanted – Alice has you covered.

Have you met….Twenty Something City?

Why the name Twenty Something City?

It’s a bit of a long story actually. My blog used to be called The Shoestring Shopper as my focus was creating looks on a budget. But when I was interning in New York I really wanted to branch out and write about my experiences, and so Twenty Something City was born. Cause, ya know, I’m a twenty-something living in big cities, innit?

Describe your blog in three words:

Can I have four? (Glamorous) life for less.

Where do you live and what are your three favourite things about that city?

I moved to London from Edinburgh in January. I love all the novelty bars and culinary experiences (like Ballie Ballerson the ball pit bar, and all the Instagram-worthy eats) I also love the fact that there is every shop ever here (THE MISSGUIDED STORE OMFG). It’s also great being in the midst of all the unique events and pop-ups. Just don’t get me started on the cost of living…

What is your favourite food to eat? Why?

I think it’s got to be nachos.. I love trying all different toppings and flavour combinations. Most recently, I tried potato skin nachos topped with haggis and whisky sauce from Makkar’s Gourmet Mash Bar in Edinburgh. Nachos have been my hangover staple for years, so if I’ve got a heavy night planned I’ll make sure I’ve some tortilla chips floating around somewhere. My nachos are pretty famous amongst my friends, actually, and I’ll always whip out a piping hot batch if I’m hosting a party. I am the nacho queen.

What is your least favourite food to eat? Why?

God, I hate goat’s cheese. And smoked salmon. I really can’t cope with anything bland, either. A big pile of plain rice or pasta is definitely a nightmare meal for me.

What is your favourite restaurant to eat at, why and what do you order?

My favourite is definitely Chaophrya in Edinburgh. I haven’t been to any of the other locations (though I have been to their buffet version, Chao Baby in the Trafford Centre which was fun), but the main thing about the Edinburgh one is the incredible views. Asian food is my favourite, and I could happily eat anything on the menu at Chaophrya. Sadly, my favourite dish ever ever x1000 is no longer on the menu, but my other top pick from here is the lamb massaman. That’s a big deal coming from me, as I don’t even like lamb!

What is your favourite bar to drink at, why and what do you order?

I have found THE BEST bar round the corner from me in London! It’s called Little Nan’s   bar, and it’s a bit of a speakeasy located under an independent cinema (London as fuck, right?!) It’s a 90s-themed bar with vintage Take That, Friends and Buffy the Vampire Slayer posters on the wall. They only play 90s music (my fave music era) AND there’s a dressing up box and photobooth. There’s also free pick and mix and a popcorn machine PLUS the drinks are served in massive, mismatched teapots. A teapot of gin and tonic with a plate of gummy bears = a great night in my book!

Where is your favourite place to have a coffee, why and what do you order?

Fun fact- I don’t really drink coffee. I have pretty low caffeine tolerance so I tend to stick to the green tea. HOWEVER, there’s this coffee shop in Hackney I’ve been DYING to visit called Palm Vaults – they’ve been serving up rainbow-coloured lattes long before Starbucks and their unicorn nonsense.

You can only eat one thing for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Pizza. There’s so many options when it comes to toppings I think it would take a lifetime to get bored. I’m not sure all that cheese would agree with me, however, but that’s another story…

What is your biggest food vice?

I’m pretty good at taming my food vices, but if there’s cheesecake on a restaurant’s dessert menu then I HAVE to have it. That being said, I really have no control when it comes to chocolate. It’s eat a whole share bar or don’t bother in my book.

What is your favourite city for food? Any recommendations?

Definitely Edinburgh. I don’t even live there anymore and I STILL come across a new restaurant or cafe I want to visit there every single week. I love that there are options for every budget and a good mix of chain restaurants and places that are truly one-of- a-kind.

Fill in the gaps : If I had to be food I would be…. Because….

If I had to be a food I would be a raw brownie, because I’m naughty yet nice 😉 We both also look great in photos on Instagram! Come on, that was a good one, right? Haha!

What are your three favourite social media accounts to follow?

I do love Delish’s Facebook page. Everything is oozing with cheese, and there’s nothing like a good bit of cheese porn.

Mt favourite Instagrammer is Sophie Hannah Richardson. I feel I can live my mermaid style dreams vicariously through her.

On YouTube I am currently obsessed with Naturally Stefanie. She’s a vegan bodybuilder, but even if that’s not your bag her Glasgow sense of humour is the best!
