Edinburgh is a beautiful city that is ever changing, and with this change comes a vast amount of newly opened food businesses. Luckily, we have a network of foodbloggers to cover the city far and wide so you will always know where to next have your dinner.
This is where I introduce TartanSpoon, ask her for a recommendation and Adele will have you covered. Whether it is the newest opened restaurant in Edinburgh, her latest review of a newly launched menu or where you should be taking your Dad for Fathers Day, TartanSpoon has you covered.
Have you met….TartanSpoon?
Beautiful salmon from Fort William at @waedinburgh and their new Quintessential Breakfast. Their salmon is home cured with orange 🍊, ginger and star anise. – – #breakfast #breakfasttime #brunch #salmon #scottish #scottishsalmon #seafood #fish #cured #eat #eating #foodie #foodies #foodblog #foods #foodstagram
Why the name TartanSpoon?
I wanted my blog to represent Scotland/being Scottish and food. I wanted it to include a word that symbolised food ie bowl, cup, fork etc. In discussion with my best friend we thought about Wooden Spoon but that had negative connotations and Silver Spoon, too elitist; but TartanSpoon ticked the boxes. However, I really liked Wooden Spoon and Silver Spoon, so decided to use these as my award system. Now I have Greasy Spoon which is awarded to restaurants that are terrible and you should avoid; Wooden Spoon which are restaurants that are okay but needs improvement; Silver Spoon which are restaurants that are really good and you should give them a go and Tartan Spoon awarded to restaurants that are fabulous.
Describe your blog in three words:
Informative, Fun, Scottish
Where do you live and what are your three favourite things about that city?
I live in Leith which although part of Edinburgh, has it’s own mini-culture and vibe. I love Edinburgh because it truly is one of the most breath-taking cities in the world. It is small, compact and possibly one of the easiest cities to get around. It is also the festival capital of the world and although during August the world descends on Edinburgh and as a resident, it can be quite frustrating, there is nothing like it on earth. The culture, the arts, the people, the performances. I love how every spare space transforms itself into a stage.

What is your favourite food to eat? Why?
This has to be scallops. I just adore them and I really need to stop ordering them whenever they are on a menu and give something else a chance to delight my taste buds. I grew up in South Africa and scallops aren’t available over there. I love seafood and these just top the long list!
What is your least favourite food to eat? Why?
Oysters. I just have no idea what to do with them once they are in my mouth. I hate the texture of them and just want to spit them out. Definitely not a fan and they do not feature on my seafood list at all!
What is your favourite restaurant to eat at, why and what do you order?
Kilted Lobster in Stockbridge is my favourite not only because my partner is the Chef Patron but because they serve the best lobster in Edinburgh. It comes smothered in truffle garlic butter and served with a confit sweet potato and green beans or seasonal veg. This along with a glass of Champagne makes Adele a very happy person.
What is your favourite bar to drink at, why and what do you order?
One of my favourites is Heads and Tales for cocktails. I don’t have a favourite cocktail, but I do love gin and rum.
Where is your favourite place to have a coffee, why and what do you order?
I adore Lovecrumbs. It’s always busy but love the communal eclectic feel about it. I usually order a latte and if I’ve had a hard day in the office, there is ALWAYS the most amazing cakes to make me smile again.
You can only eat one thing for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Steak, steak and more steak. Medium rare. Happy to eat this on its own or with chips and pepper sauce. Mmmmm foodie heaven.
I ❤️ this dish more than I love the cakes at @hellolovecrumbs and that's saying a lot!! This is the crushed garlic peas with seeds on sourdough toast. It's the PERFECT lunch! #peas #garlic #sourdough #peasontoast #lunch #lunchtime #foodforfoodies #foodstagram #food #yummy #foodie #foodstagram #foodporn #foodpics #edinburgh #edinburghbloggers #foodblog #foodblogger
What is your biggest food vice?
Bread. Freshly baked, still warm, cut thick with ice cold butter.
What is your favourite city for food? Any recommendations?
To date it has to be Copenhagen. Superb outdoors markets, bakeries and home to Geranium and Noma, 2 of the worlds best restaurants.
Fill in the gaps: If I had to be food I would be… because…
A pannacotta. It’s the perfect dessert – sweet, fairly squishy and wobbly but holds its shape (a wee bit like me).
What are your three favourite social media accounts to follow? (Can be any form of social media)
Instagram – Zoe Bowker just because I want her job!
Facebook – FEAST An edible road trip. Inspirational what these two women are doing in the world of food.
Instagram – Ca_mia_breadlab – their photos of sourdough! Amazing.
