Söderberg is somewhere I had never been or had ever heard of, shameful I know.
Firstly, I couldn’t find it. I am never in this area so the Quartermile is a maze to me, but after circling the same place for five minutes I finally realised the pleasant looking glass building in the middle was what I was looking for.
It was brimming with people from families to couples and students, it smelt comforting and you couldn’t help but feel cosy. Söderberg is filled with light and looks like a bakery with a bunch of tables thrown in, but it clearly works.
I perused the brunch menu with eager eyes as it included options such as waffles, omelettes and sourdough pizzas, it was an added bonus that everything was reasonably priced.
To drink I ordered the old classic, a flat white. A good coffee, if slightly full so some of it ended up on my saucer.
I ended up ordering the waffles with maple syrup and roasted hazelnuts.
I believe this is the most perfect looking plate of waffles I have ever seen, I mean, look at how the hazelnuts are placed?
This was a waffle experience I had never had before, as they were unlike any previous waffle I had tried. It was thin, crispy and delightful. Although I felt guitly about eating waffles I didn’t feel gross after as it was such a light and tasty dish.
An all round winner in my eyes.
With my portion of waffles I received the perfect amount of maple syrup, there is nothing worse than running out, and the hazelnuts added that cunch and nuttiness you never knew you needed. I would highly recommend.
There are Söderberg’s scattered across Edinburgh so there is no excuse not to go!
Have you been to Söderberg ? What did you think?
