Talor Tries…. Golden Snitch Truffles and Butterbeer!

I have ALWAYS wanted to cook something Harry Potter themed, and I was finally given the chance with my friend Linzi! We both love Harry Potter and food, so it seemed to be the ideal combination. Watch how we got on in the video below :

Golden Snitch Truffles

Definition  : The Golden Snitch, often called simply the Snitch, is the third and smallest ball used in Quidditch….. It flies around the Quidditch field at high speeds, sometimes pausing and hovering in place. The Seeker’s goal is to catch the Snitch before the other team’s seeker, which is worth one-hundred and fifty points.”

I found it hard to find anything that looked even remotely pretty (because what’s the point if it doesn’t take a good picture…am I right?), as much as pumpkin pasties sound delicious, they look pretty boring and don’t scream HARRY POTTER to me. Then I found a Buzzfeed article called 40 Harry Potter Inspired Treats You Should Make and all of sudden the Golden Snitch truffles jumped out at me, purely because they are SO GOLD AND SPARKLY. Look at our beautiful effort!!  When we had finished them we were 1. Knackered but 2. Extremely proud, simply because they took a lot longer than expected to make, but they did turn out fantastic (in my eyes). Yes we did have gold glitter and chocolate all over us by the end, but it was worth it. So if you are a Harry Potter fan/having a Harry Potter party I guarantee you will enjoy making these, and that they are definitely a crowd pleaser.  I will link the ingredients I used below!

Definition “Butterbeer was a popular wizarding beverage described as tasting “a little bit like less-sickly butterscotch.”

I of course could not have a Harry Potter themed food video and not include the almighty Butterbeer! Once again I found it quite hard to get a recipe that seemed do-able and the ingredients were easy for me to buy. However Linzi found a fantastic Butterbeer Recipe , I wasn’t able to get ALL the ingredients but I did kind of find some…..(Will list ingredients used below). This was FANTASTIC, both of our minds were blown with what we managed to create because it literally took two seconds (apart from freezing the cream soda) and tasted delicious. We originally used a Mr. Frosty machine (which you can see in the video above) however we realised this caused a HUGE mess and whisking it up with a fork in a glass appeared to do the same thing and create less damage…

As soon as we put the cream and caramel sauce on top, we knew we had made a masterpiece, AND it tasted fab. I have tried the original Butterbeer and I would say that it doesn’t taste exactly the same (I don’t think anyone has managed that) however it does taste similar! Look at the beauty of it!

So overall I am extremely proud of our efforts, and will definitely be trying to make them again …..Harry Potter party anyone? And YES we did watch the movies while making these, we chose The Order of the Phoenix and The Half Blood Prince. (Our favourites)
